Lilly ~ I'm an old man now!
I was in my teens then! There used to be a little record shop under the railway archies at Finsbury Park back then that only sold Ska/Bluebeat records
It was the only place I knew where you could get them
It was always packed out & usually I was the only white guy in there

Northern Sold ~ I was on holiday at Negril, Jamaica, a few years ago & my missus insisted we went for a horse ride up in the mountains

I asked the guy that went with us as a guide what my horse was called

We all fell about laughing when he said "Him call Longshot man!"

To see the real Skatalites, you'd need a time machine and go back to the mid 60s, when Drummond was still alive and leading them. I'd have liked to be locked in the studio with them. The producer said he just locked them in the studio, and as long as there was some herb, they would play and play and he'd just press record.

The Skatalites did some really good stuff.
Many years ago I saw them play at Finsbury Park (can't remember the name of the place it was so long ago ~ Rainbow-?) but have to say they were really disappointing!

I would urge anyone who likes Ska to listen to The Pioneers (recently re-released) CD Long Shot Kick de Bucket

Song written about a horse that the group bet on that broke down at Camayans racetrack in Jamiaca

Everything gets copied mentor son when it comes to music (even your neo nazi bands) ... it;s all about putting your own take on it ... even the orginal SKA (early 60's - early 70's) was a take off from melodisc/Blue Beat etc.

It's not just the title track (that everyone has heard) but the whole CD is a masterpiece
